220 NTD and you’ll be stuffed to the brim—solo dining at a Korean BBQ joint is totally doable!

Eating Korean BBQ alone can indeed be a challenge in Korea. Honestly, your main concern isn’t whether the restaurant will serve you, but whether you can finish what you order. But at Jongga Daeppang, located between Exits 2 and 3 of Dongdaemun Station, a single serving of BBQ starts at just 3,500 KRW. Even ordering two servings by yourself is no problem—I personally had two servings plus a bowl of rice for just 8,000 KRW, and I left super full and satisfied!

The restaurant looks like this—the address is 307, and it’s open 24 hours, so you can swing by anytime without a worry. Other than affordable BBQ, they also offer tofu stew for 4,500 KRW, hangover soup stew for 5,000 KRW, and blood sausage stew for 5,000 KRW. Isn't that all super great value?!

Due to the low prices, the place has been featured on several TV shows. I went around 4 PM and the restaurant was about half full—business is doing really well.

Take a look at the menu: sliced pork belly is 3,500 KRW per serving, while thick-cut pork belly is 6,500 KRW per serving. At this place, you’re expected to order two servings, so you can mix one sliced and one thick-cut pork belly, or go with my ultra-budget choice: two servings of the 3,500 KRW Daeppang pork belly. A bowl of rice is 1,000 KRW.

Before the rice arrives, you get a bowl of doenjang jjigae (fermented soybean paste stew). The pork in the photo is meant for two people—too little for two, just right (and a bit too much) for one.

Sliced pork belly—this cooks up super fast. I noticed Koreans just toss the whole plate onto the grill and stir-fry it.

Vegetables and kimchi are self-serve—no auntie to call over here!

The kimchi at Jongga Daeppang is a bit sour for my taste, so I skipped it. And grilled kimchi? Even more sour!

I love stir-frying the sliced green onions and eating them together—it's super yummy. And remember to char the green onions a little for extra aroma!

Stir-fry half first, then the other half. Why is grilled green onion with pork belly so delicious?! Also, once most of the fat renders out of the pork belly, the meat gets slightly charred and is honestly not greasy at all—I swear!

The doenjang (fermented bean paste) here tastes really good, so I dipped garlic in it, wrapped it with lettuce, meat, and rice, and ate it all together—absolutely perfect. While the side veggies here aren’t as amazing as those at Baek Jong-won’s place, at this price point, they’re still pretty generous. There’s also a young waiter who’s super friendly—he said you can order different types of meat, as long as the total is at least two servings.
