What does “mom’s taste” from your memory look like? For people in Daguang Community, Pingtung, it might be the flavor of salted fish jerky mixed with peanuts, pickled mustard greens, and eggs with preserved turnips. The Daguang Community Development Association launched theFishermen’s Lunch Boxstarting from the 1st, aiming not only to share the taste of home but also highlighting the importance of environmental conservation and ecological protection.

Lai Cheng-te, head of the Daguang Community Development Association, said that Daguang is located within the Kenting National Park and primarily depends on fishing. Lai explained that the concept of the “Fishermen’s Lunch Box” was initiated by the association’s general secretary, Kuo Chen-feng. Growing up, when his father went out to fish, his mother would prepare a lunch box filled with salted fish jerky, peanuts, eggs with preserved turnips, and sweet potatoes. It tasted great even when cold, so he wanted to share this nostalgic flavor with more people.

Lai Cheng-te said that besides using local ingredients, the rice in the lunch box comes from organic rice produced in Longshui Community. The highlight of the lunch box is the salted fish jerky. While mackerel is an easily sourced ingredient, according to the “Taiwan Seafood Choice Guide,” mackerel falls under the green category, meaning it is not only suitable for cooking but also safer for consumption and doesn’t burden the ocean. Therefore, the Fishermen’s Lunch Box also carries a message of ecological conservation.。
