The ongoing Pingtung International Rice Art Festival, which has gone viral after collaborating with LINE to launch the “3D Brown Bear Painted Rice Field,” attracted huge crowds of rice field visitors during the holiday period. In recent days, a large group of yellow ducklings has also been added near the viewing platform of the rice art fields, becoming new playmates for Brown Bear and Rabbit.

The Pingtung County Agriculture Department explained that this is actually part of the traditional duck-rice co-cultivation natural farming method. In the past, farmers would raise ducks in the fields because the ducks eat pests and snails, and their webbed feet stir up the water, making it murky and preventing weed growth. This reduces the need for pesticides, and the ducks’ droppings also serve as fertilizer—offering multiple benefits. The department also reminds visitors to avoid disturbing these delicate guests while enjoying the rice fields.

The “3D Brown Bear Painted Rice Field” at the Pingtung International Rice Art Festival runs from now until May 10. A 9-meter-high viewing platform has also been set up on-site, allowing the public to take in the full view of the painted rice fields.
