Firefly Season at Aowanda Recreation Area: Step into a "Blue Galaxy" Woven by Tiny Lights

As firefly season arrives, the ever-beautiful Aowanda National Forest Recreation Area certainly won’t miss out on this nighttime spectacle. The Aowanda Nature Education Center will host four two-day, one-night "Mabao Mini Trips – Firefly Starry Night" sessions in May, taking visitors to admire the forest illuminated by countless fireflies as if the starry sky has descended, rekindling childhood memories.

The Nantou Forest District Office stated that Aowanda National Forest Recreation Area boasts abundant and clean water resources, diverse and well-preserved forest vegetation, and an average annual temperature of around 19°C, making it highly suitable for the growth and reproduction of fireflies. Between April and May each year, the dim forest glows with tiny lights, mainly from species such as black-winged fireflies, red-chested black-winged fireflies, giant glowworms, and broad-bordered glowworms... Among them, black-winged fireflies are the most numerous. Those wishing to view the fireflies should plan their visit accordingly.

The Aowanda Nature Education Center will organize four two-day, one-night in-depth eco-tourism firefly viewing sessions on May 7–8, 9–10, 14–15, and 16–17. During the day, visitors can immerse themselves in nature and enjoy the beauty of the mountains and forests; at night, the shining stars—“fireflies”—take the stage, allowing guests to experience this magical nocturnal world with their hearts.
