Narita Airport’s brand-new Terminal 3, dedicated exclusively to low-cost carriers, officially opened at 3:30 a.m. on the 8th. In the future, international and domestic low-cost flights to and from Tokyo will operate from this new terminal.

Terminal 3 at Narita Airport is the airport’s first new terminal facility in 22 years and 4 months. In line with the “low-cost” concept, the terminal features simple interiors and significantly reduced construction costs. However, it boasts Japan’s largest airport food court and an aircraft observation deck, ensuring passengers won’t be bored during layovers.

In the early hours of the 8th, Narita Airport’s mascot “Kutan” also made an appearance to welcome passengers boarding the first flight at 6:10 a.m. from the new terminal bound for Sapporo. Mascots from Chiba Prefecture and nearby cities also appeared at the opening ceremony to greet more arriving passengers.

Low-cost carriers currently operating at Narita Airport’s Terminal 3 include Jetstar, Jeju Air, Vanilla Air, and Spring Airlines Japan, with more set to join in the future. It is expected that over 90 international and domestic flights will operate daily after the opening. Considering that some flights arrive and depart in the early hours, the terminal’s food court operates from 4 a.m. to 9 p.m., and around 100 long sofas are available 24 hours a day for passenger use throughout the terminal.
