This breakfast spot, named Medea, is very famous in Kaohsiung. Visitors to the city are sure to hear locals rave about this little shop. The fried noodle soup is generous and filling, with five big, sweet, and fresh shrimp that make you feel like you’re getting way more than your money’s worth. The broth is authentic—you’ll taste the old-school flavors right away. Add a half-boiled egg (fully cooked available too), and you’ve got a satisfying, nutritious meal. A huge bowl costs just 70 NT, no wonder the place is always swamped.

The owner has added seating on the second floor, where sleek industrial design adds a modern touch. The faux exposed concrete walls paired with cozy, trendy decor create a soothing and relaxing atmosphere—it’s hard to believe this is a no-minimum-spend, breakfast-only traditional eatery. Additionally, Medea is very family-friendly, with spacious seating and kid-sized chairs, making it a hit with families.

Medea offers drinks in two sizes: medium and large. The photo shows a medium 500cc cup—many visitors from Taipei are surprised to find that this is considered a large size back home. Not only are the portions generous, but the drink options are diverse too. Black tea, soy milk, and milk tea are staples, and there are also juice options. Out-of-towners should definitely try the southern specialty: black tea with soy milk, for a taste of local flavor.
