The Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is now open for the season！ Its 19-meter-high silver-white snow walls are absolutely spectacular.

Japan’s Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, known annually for its towering snow walls, officially announced its opening today (April 16). According to actual measurements, this year’s snow walls reach a height of 19 meters, surpassing last year’s 15 meters.

During winter, the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route forms unique “snow walls” due to heavy snow accumulation. Travelers walking through these walls feel as if they are entering a silver-white snow tunnel — an incredibly majestic sight. With the official opening ceremony today, the snow corridor of Tateyama Kurobe will be open for viewing from April 16 to June 22. During this period, visitors can see towering snow walls lining the roadsides, gaze at the Tateyama Mountain Range in the distance, and also enjoy activities such as riding snow tubes and building snowmen.

According to tourism operators, the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route attracts many tourists and photography enthusiasts every year after opening, not only because of its spectacular snow walls but also because it can be combined with other nearby attractions such as the traditional gassho villages and Kenrokuen Garden. A 5-day tour package starts at approximately 32,000 yen per person.
