The 9 Most Eye-Catching Buildings of 2015！Taiwan’s “Sustainability Ring” Makes the List

Architecture website Architizer recently announced the winners of the third A+ Awards, with Taiwan’s “Sustainability Ring” taking home both the “Professional Jury Award” and the “Popular Choice Award.” In fact, the winning projects showcase some of the latest and most impressive buildings from around the world, spanning residential, commercial, and even cultural categories. After being selected by 300 judges, the top five in each category were chosen by experts. Below areCNN’s curated picksand our selection of award-winning works:

1. Denmark, The Blue Planet Aquarium
Designed by 3XN, the design is inspired by whirlpools, water flow, fish, and birds.

2. India, Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport
This is the airport’s second terminal, which is expected to handle 40 million passengers annually in the future.

3. Taiwan, Sustainability Ring (Demountable Structure)
An LED screen designed for the 2013 Hsinchu Taiwan Lantern Festival, inspired by the local history and culture of Hsinchu.

4. Austria, Steirereck Restaurant
PPAG won the Steirereck Restaurant design competition in 2012, with the overall concept centered around an outward-looking design forming an infinite reflective structure.

5. Georgia, Highway Rest Stop
Commissioned by the highway department, this futuristic rest stop will be located on the newly built highway that connects Turkey and Azerbaijan through Georgia, and it is situated near some fantastic attractions.

6. Belgium, Courthouse
Going to court isn’t usually a pleasant experience, but if the courthouse looked like this, it would definitely be more appealing. This transparent building houses not only the courthouse but also a library, university law faculty auditorium, and more.

7. Australia, Wollongong Department Store
The building itself blends art and culture. This department store is located 90 kilometers south of Sydney.

8. Canada, Grotto Sauna
This sauna is situated on a small island in Ontario. Unlike traditional methods, the architects used 3D scanning and printing technology to model and construct the sauna.
