In fact, according to a Japanese survey, over 60% of couples have experienced arguments while traveling. So, how can you reduce the chances of fighting during a trip?

1. Ladies, show more care for the one driving.
There are quite a few travelers who go on self-drive tours abroad. If women don’t have a driver’s license, the responsibility of driving often falls on the men. But long hours and long distances behind the wheel can be very exhausting for the driver. In this case, as the passenger, whether it’s offering water or drinks, or preparing some gum to help keep them awake, small thoughtful gestures can help warm up your relationship.

Also, remember, whether your partner accidentally gets lost or takes a wrong turn, don’t start by blaming them. The most important thing is to find the right way together and continue the journey.

2. Girls, if getting ready takes more time, wake up earlier.
For most women, they want to look good when going out to have fun—not just for their own happiness, but also to make their partner feel proud taking them out. But if getting ready and doing makeup takes a longer time, try waking up earlier than your partner. This way, you won’t delay the day’s schedule, nor will you keep someone waiting too long until they become impatient.

Many men don’t need to spend much time getting ready when they go out—they just tidy their hair a bit and make sure their clothes are clean and neat. So, they don’t understand why girls take so long to get ready with makeup and all. As the waiting time grows longer, their patience gradually wears out, and their tone may no longer be as gentle as usual. A simple impatient “Are you done yet?” could easily become the spark that leads to an argument. To avoid such situations, ladies, wake up earlier and get ready.

3. Don’t keep staring at your phone or scrolling through social media.
With mobile Wi-Fi hotspots becoming more common, even abroad you’re no longer restricted by time or place—you can instantly snap photos of delicious food or beautiful scenery and share them on Facebook. But constantly being a “phone zombie,” checking how many likes or comments you’re getting, might make your partner wonder: Are you here to travel, or just to scroll through your phone?

Put your phone down for a while, enjoy the beautiful sights with your partner, take a few memorial photos, or savor the delicious food and share your thoughts with each other—create memories that last throughout the trip.

4. Don’t overly display negative emotions.
The term “negative emotions” here refers not only to complaints but also includes giving the cold shoulder, raining on someone’s parade, etc. When you’re excited and your partner responds with something like “How boring” or “I’m so tired,” doesn’t your excitement instantly vanish?

When you’re in a bad mood or facing some troubles, don’t just wear a sour face and say nothing. Try communicating it properly to your partner—who knows, the understanding other half will likely be empathetic.
