It’s time to get weird — the popular American Voodoo Doughnut is coming to Taiwan in June

A must-visit spot in Portland, and yet it's called an international tourist attraction by American media — a doughnut shop? Voodoo Doughnut, located on Third Street in Portland, always has people lining up outside no matter the weather — be it windy, rainy, or sunny. Its quirky, unconventional doughnuts have become hugely popular, and this offbeat doughnut brand is about to make its debut in Taipei!

The 24-hour Voodoo Doughnut shops in the U.S. serve doughnuts with wild designs, many inspired by voodoo dolls, covered in bright icing. Even the regular round ones get creative toppings — they aim to stand out by being as cool as possible.Besides the unusual doughnut shapes, the service from the staff is also pretty strange — they often shout “We’re closing!” at the waiting crowd for fun.

At the Portland Voodoo Doughnut, the cheapest doughnut costs $0.95 (less than NT$30), and there are over 90 flavors for customers to choose from.

The Taipei branch is currently under renovation and is set to open in June. It remains to be seen whether it will spark another wave of long queues. As for the flavors, in addition to the flagship ones from the U.S., some will be adjusted to suit Taiwanese tastes. It has been confirmed that the Taipei store will not operate 24 hours a day, and the opening hours are still under discussion.
