Mount Fuji is Japan’s most iconic landmark and a symbol of the Yamato people. Many people, including those from within Japan, go to great lengths to visit Mount Fuji and catch a close-up glimpse of its beauty. However, the mountain is often shrouded in clouds, leaving visitors disappointed. For residents of Fujinomiya, though, seeing Mount Fuji is just "part of daily life"—something that many others deeply envy.

Mount Fuji straddles the border between Shizuoka Prefecture and Yamanashi Prefecture. There are many small towns around the mountain, and Fujinomiya in Shizuoka Prefecture to the south is one of them. Hiroaki Sano ( @omochi_21 ), a resident of Fujinomiya, recently posted two photos titled "Daily Life in Shizuoka," showing the majestic Mount Fuji standing tall at the end of a small-town street—as if saying, "You all want to see beautiful Mount Fuji? For me, it’s right here." Whether out of envy or not, his tweets have so far received 290,000 likes and nearly 50,000 retweets, reflecting the strong impression his photos left on netizens.

Many Japanese photographers enjoy seeking out unique vantage points in remote locations to capture the best angles of Mount Fuji. For Sano, taking these two photos was much easier—the shooting location was just the north exit of Fujisan Station on the Tōkaidō Main Line. The view along Fujimotochō Street is no different from that of most small-town streets in Japan, but if you look up slightly, Mount Fuji in the distance seems within arm’s reach.

▲ "Daily life with Mount Fuji" photos can also be taken from Yamanashi Prefecture on the northern side of the mountain.

He took the photos in the afternoon and at dusk. In the afternoon, some clouds still partially covered the mountainside, but by sunset, the clouds had completely cleared, and the changing sunlight highlighted the ridges of the summit, creating a breathtaking view. No wonder one netizen commented, "I want to walk all the way down this street to Mount Fuji."
