Taipei Railway Station is the busiest transportation hub in all of Taiwan, surrounded by department stores and underground malls, and packed with many fantastic food options. Today, we’re taking you and our editor to try an ultra-authentic Vietnamese pho located on the second floor of Taipei Railway Station inside the Breeze mall.
A Vietnamese eatery full of Saigon charm, serving authentic Vietnamese cuisine.
Vietnam Light is a Vietnamese restaurant rich with the ambiance of Saigon. Our editor visited the branch on the second floor of the Breeze mall at Taipei Main Station. It's tucked in a corner, and you can easily spot it by the large sign and green plants at the entrance.
Vietnam Light’s Train Station Beef Pho.
Our editor ordered their signature dish — Vietnam Light’s Train Station Beef Pho. It comes with slices of raw beef, beef balls, beef tripe, and beef shank, along with toppings like onions, basil, and chopped scallions. The portion is generous, and the broth delivers the sweet flavors of beef and onion. On the side, there are condiments you can customize to your taste. Our editor added a spoonful of chili and a squeeze of lemon, paired with the perfectly textured pho noodles — the dish is full of Vietnamese flair, and it was really satisfying!
Lemongrass Grill Steak Rice.
This Lemongrass Grill Steak Rice caught our editor’s eye right away — it’s a signature dish and it has steak, so they went for it. Although not a huge fan of lemongrass, the sirloin steak definitely earned a thumbs up. The surface had a slight char from the direct flame grilling, and the first bite revealed a tender texture with a hint of sirloin’s muscle fibers. The juicy meat, sealed in during cooking, paired perfectly with hot rice — absolutely delicious.
Vietnam Light’s Pork Chop with Vietnamese Baguette.
Vietnamese baguette is a classic in Vietnamese cuisine, so of course it couldn’t be missed. The freshly baked French bread is stuffed with crispy fried pork chops, along with liver pâté, mayonnaise, cilantro, cucumber, white radish, and purple onion to enhance the flavor. The texture is nice and crisp, though our editor felt there was a bit too much sauce — a slight downside.
