There’s a sandbar in Tainan dubbed Taiwan’s Sahara, located on the Dingtou’e Sandbar in Qigu. With its vast expanse and sweeping views, it creates the illusion of being in a desert. Many travelers love coming here to stroll on the sand and feel the breeze, and the sunset views are absolutely stunning. The nearby Guosheng Lighthouse is also a must-shoot spot on any photography enthusiast’s list.

Dingtou’e Sandbar is a coastal sandbar formed by sediments carried by rivers in western Taiwan. These sands, transported by ocean waves over the years, gradually accumulated and emerged above sea level, creating this slender strip of land.

From afar, travelers can see the ocean adjacent to the sandbar. Dingtou’e Sandbar is quite unique, offering both desert and seaside experiences in one. This desolate and barren stretch of sand has become a popular destination for adventure and photography.

The vast desert meets the sea, and the fine sand on the ground can get quite hot under the sun. Strong sea breezes blow across the dry dunes, creating rippled patterns. When the sun sets, the undulating lines of light and shadow on the sandbar become especially pronounced, captivating many photographers who can’t bear to leave.

Next to the sandbar stands Qigu Lighthouse, also known as Guosheng Lighthouse. It is the westernmost lighthouse on Taiwan’s main island, and its surroundings are an ideal place to watch the sunset and ocean views.
