In Taipei’s historical development, the Old Roundabout in the old city district played an important role, akin to the heart of the bustling Dadaocheng area. Surrounded by many shops and food spots, though times have changed, there are still plenty of hidden culinary gems. This traditional-style bowl feast and rice ball shop today invites netizens and our editor Jing to come and enjoy the feast!

The original home of the bowl feast.

Bowl Feast Home is tucked away in the alleys near the Old Roundabout in Datong, Taipei. It’s a well-known old shop in the bowl feast and rice ball scene, beloved by many foodies for its classic, traditional flavors.

Traditional-flavored bowl feast.

At Bowl Feast Home, the bowl feast is served in traditional blue ceramic bowls placed inside large steamers on the tables—you can help yourself. All the sauces are laid out on the table, so diners can customize their toppings to taste. The dish includes mushrooms, pork, and egg yolk. The bowl feast is fragrant with rice aroma and has an exceptionally chewy texture.

Authentic rice balls.

The rice balls come in paper bowls, drizzled with soy sauce and topped with cilantro. What’s particularly unique is that these rice balls contain taro. As someone who’s quite wary of taro, our editor Jing removed it right away—but to be honest, aside from the taro, the pork filling is very hearty, savory, and pairs perfectly with the soft yet chewy skin—absolutely delicious.

Milkfish ball soup.

The milkfish balls in their soup are long and slender, with a nice texture and full flavor. The bowl is garnished with celery and scallions, then poured over with rich broth, filling the air with mouthwatering aroma.
