Many places in Taiwan retain Japanese-style old buildings from decades or even a century ago, all of which are quite unique. In the Japanese Historical Architecture Cultural Park in Chaozhou, Pingtung, there is a nearly 100-year-old building that was once a residence for Japanese officers. Its simple and unadorned old Japanese-style appearance is like stepping into a street-side shop from Japan’s Showa era, exuding a strong sense of history.

The Japanese-style architectural complex in the park consists of officer dormitories from the Japanese colonial period. Originally, there were 20 such buildings, but in recent years, the Chaozhou Township Office has restored three of the preserved main structures on their original sites. Aside from serving as a visitor center, these buildings will also function as spaces for cultural history exhibitions and artistic performances.

The Japanese-style dormitory complex is located in a prime area of Chaozhou Township. As it is close to famous local attractions such as the renowned Chaozhou Roundabout, shaved ice stands, and the San Shan Wang Temple, the township office transformed the surrounding area of the former three-worksite site into a parking lot. It then used traditional construction methods to renovate the nearly 100-year-old Japanese dormitory buildings.
