With smartphones in the hands of nearly everyone in Taiwan and tablets also rapidly gaining popularity, daily app downloads are reaching astonishing numbers. The Tourism Bureau under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has targeted the global community of Apple fans among travelers by launching a free English-language Taiwan travel e-book (Taiwan eBook) that can be downloaded. It features 101 attractions across Taiwan and 20 recommended travel routes, which the public can make good use of.

Just download the Taiwan eBook to your phone, and traveling in Taiwan becomes much easier!

The English-language Taiwan travel e-book (Taiwan eBook) is available for free download on iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad via iTunes and the App Store. Its content is organized around five major themes: ecology, cycling, urban life, art, and culture. Before departure, travelers can download the Taiwan eBook and browse Taiwan’s natural and cultural attractions. They can also save planned destinations or suggested itineraries to their phone’s photo album to save time searching during the trip. Each attraction includes contact numbers and addresses, allowing travelers to obtain first-hand information directly through phone calls en route. Additionally, by using the GPS system integrated with Google Maps, simply enter the address of an attraction from the e-book to instantly find directions from “your current location” to “the attraction location.”

The desktop version of Taiwan eBook is hosted by actor and host Nie Yun as the video presenter.

> In addition to being available for free download on iTunes and the App Store, the public can also download the Taiwan eBook from the Tourism Bureau’s North American promotional website www.go2taiwan.net. Unlike the mobile version, the desktop edition of the Taiwan eBook features real-person interactive video guides that introduce Taiwan’s five major tourism resources in vivid and fluent English. Global netizens can also watch videos on the site featuring Cloud Gate Dance Theatre, National Palace Museum national treasures, Kaohsiung World Games Stadium, National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium, Orchid Island Flying Fish Festival, and the Dajia Mazu Pilgrimage. Paired with the Tourism Bureau’s English-language bi-monthly magazine Travel in Taiwan, available for free download and reading on www.zinio.com for iPad and Android users, these resources attract travelers from around the world to visit Taiwan.
