Every year from June to August is Hong Kong’s Summer Discount Season, which always attracts a huge influx of tourists eager to shop. In the early part of the discount season, product availability is at its highest but discounts are relatively small; it’s not until late July to after August that the best deals truly begin, with prices at their lowest and the atmosphere most fiercely competitive. From local brands to international luxury goods, everything is slashed to its rock-bottom price. Although sizes may be limited, the astonishing prices often encourage shoppers to dig through the racks without a care for appearances, snapping up items left and right—whether as gifts or for personal use.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board stated that during the early part of the discount season, most brands offer around 30% off, while in July and August, discounts can go as low as 70% off. During this period, the Hong Kong Tourism Board also organizes the “Hong Kong Summer Spectacular” event. Before August 31, those who make purchases in Hong Kong using a Visa card and register the transactions on the www.visa.com.hk website can compete to be among the top three weekly users by number of transactions, winning a Visa prepaid card worth HK$10,000. On Saturdays, there are also fun activities such as “flash mobs” appearing in designated malls, where lucky shoppers who made purchases that day are randomly selected to receive free HK$500 cash vouchers.

Although Hong Kong isn’t very big, it has an abundance of shopping malls, offering every global fashion brand imaginable. Most international luxury brands can be found along the flagship streets of Central, Causeway Bay, and Tsim Sha Tsui. Must-visits include Harbour City and Park Lane Shopper’s Boulevard, beloved by Taiwanese visitors. Don’t miss the flagship stores of H&M, Zara, A&F, and Cotton On. Brands such as Agnes.b, Vivienne Westwood, TOUGH, UNIQLO, 2%, IZZUE, 5CM, and Campers are also much more affordable here than in Taiwan. Below are some locally beloved shopping spots that even Hong Kong residents wouldn’t miss—perfect for seizing the remainder of summer and heading out for a shopping spree.

The IFC Mall is located in a prime spot bustling with globally significant financial institutions, and is also connected to the Airport Express and MTR. It houses over 200 international fashion and luxury brand shops. Recommended attraction: Landmark

Landmark is a gathering place for global luxury brands, including well-known names such as Chanel, LV, Gucci, Loewe, and POLO. Virtually all of them have a presence here—even Prada has three separate stores for men’s, women’s, and leather goods. The British department store Harvey Nichols and the cultural icon, The Landmark Mandarin Oriental Hotel, are located together, adding even more charm. Landmark has also completed a large-scale expansion project, with super-premium brands such as Celine, Dior, Fendi, and Tod’s, like Gucci, opening two-story flagship stores here. Mall guide: Landmark consists of three office towers, a mall, and a hotel. The ground-level mall has four floors, including the basement level, ground level, and two upper floors, featuring luxury brand boutiques designed by international masters, making it one of the premier luxury shopping destinations in Hong Kong. Interestingly, many celebrities come here to shop for clothes, so there are numerous secret passageways leading directly to the parking lot, used by stars looking to avoid paparazzi.
