The Orchid Exhibition at the Shilin Official Residence Begins on October 7th, Showcasing Fragrant Blooms

Orchids are a shining star of Taiwan's agricultural sector, with last year’s output reaching as high as $116 million, demonstrating Taiwan's world-leading expertise in cultivation and research. From October 7 to October 16, the Taipei City Department of Public Works' Parks Division will showcase around 50 species of miscellaneous orchids at the New Orchid Pavilion in the Shilin Official Residence Park. The public is welcome to visit the residence to admire the flowers.

Among the exhibits, the Habenaria, a type of terrestrial orchid, mainly includes Habenaria rhodocheila native to China and Indochina, as well as its hybrids. These flowers have uniquely shaped blooms, vibrant colors, and some varieties can grow up to 100 cm tall, producing an astonishingly large number of flowers. P. violacea is the red variant of the fluorescent butterfly orchid, with petals mostly in bright red hues and a rich, captivating fragrance. P. tetraspis c1 is a wild species of butterfly orchid, distinguished by its unique flower color and the varied red shades on its petals and sepals. Paph. Spicerianum X Self is a very cute wild species of slipper orchid, with blooms resembling a frog and mainly flowering in autumn and winter.

Autumn has arrived with its cool and pleasant weather—neither too hot nor too cold—making it perfect for leisurely strolls and flower viewing. The Shilin Official Residence is now adorned with deep autumn scenery, featuring beautiful mountainous landscapes. Visitors can come with family and friends, bringing along a relaxed state of mind to enjoy the golden leaves and waves of autumn hues.
