In March and April, as spring blossoms, many seasonal wonders begin to appear. Located in Chiayi, the Ruili Scenic Area offers the chance to admire romantic wisteria blooms and a sparkling carpet of fireflies, all while strolling through a serene bamboo forest where the faint aroma of tea wafts through the air. A one-day trip to Ruili lets you discover unique springtime scenery.

Throughout the Ruili Village area, there are about 20 to 30 spots where you can enjoy the wisteria flowers. Currently, blooming conditions vary by location. Each year during the wisteria season, a “Wisteria Flower Festival” is held. This year’s viewing period lasts until April 12th, and the vast purple floral seas are breathtaking.

Fireflies have already made their appearance at the Rainbow Eco-Village (formerly the Ruolan Villa Firefly Conservation Area).

Enjoy the wisteria by day and the fireflies by night — April and May are the best months for firefly viewing, and fireflies have already started to appear in Ruili Village in March. However, when viewing fireflies, remember: no loud noises, no catching fireflies, no shining flashlights directly at them (you can cover your flashlight with red cellophane to avoid disturbing the fireflies), and no littering, in order to protect the firefly habitat.

The Ruili Green Tunnel offers a tranquil environment.

The Ruitali Ancient Trail is a must-walk path for many visitors to Ruili. Along the way, there is a bamboo forest planted with Phyllostachys edulis, known as the “Ruili Green Tunnel.” Strolling along this peaceful bamboo trail, you’ll be greeted by the subtle fragrance of the bamboo forest and perhaps even the aroma of spring tea being harvested from Alishan — a truly relaxing and healing experience.

The Ruili Scenic Area is one of the earliest developed regions of Alishan, sitting at an altitude of 1,000 meters. It boasts a wealth of tourist resources. In addition to its seasonal beauty, there are many attractions, including the Zhukengxi Trail, Ruifeng Dragon Palace Waterfall, Swallow Cliff, and the Thousand-Year Bat Cave — each offering stunning views.
