You don’t have to travel all the way to Thailand to join a water festival either. The Taichung City Labor Bureau will hold a Southeast Asian Festival and Cultural Event on Sunday, April 15 at 10:00 AM in Taichung Park, letting foreign migrant workers and Taiwanese locals share the joy of the water festival together.

Taichung currently has about 58,000 foreign migrant workers from countries such as Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Indonesia. With the upcoming water festival carnivals across Thailand, the Taichung City Labor Bureau will also host a Southeast Asian Festival and Cultural (Water Festival) Event in Taichung Park to help ease the homesickness of the migrant workers.
On the day of the event, in addition to fun water-splashing games, there will also be a “First Taichung YiGuo Starlight Talent Competition,” where migrant workers can show off their singing and performance skills. The site will also feature traditional international food stalls, bamboo toy DIY activities, cultural challenge games, and the first 3,000 participants will receive NT$50 food vouchers. There will also be lucky draws for iPads, allowing locals to experience exotic traditional culture without traveling abroad.
