Situated at the southernmost end of the Mariana Islands and the westernmost U.S. territory, Guam has always been one of the preferred island getaway destinations for Taiwanese tourists. In fact, aside from the typical island vacation activities, the recently launched "The Guam Guide" has specially curated a list of 10 must-do experiences unique to Guam — including climbing the world’s tallest mountain, touching WWII shipwreck ruins, and joining a traditional Chamorro island carnival. These experiences offer a deeper dive into the island's culture, setting them apart from conventional Guam travel itineraries.

First, for culture enthusiasts, the Lina’la’ Chamorro Cultural Park is highly recommended. This cultural park is built on a thousand-year-old Chamorro settlement site and features traditional Chamorro-style architecture, latte stones, and indigenous handicrafts. The park also recreates the daily life of the ancient Chamorro people. For those especially interested in traditional Chamorro life, there’s also the Chamorro Island Carnival tour, which allows visitors to explore various Chamorro villages, experience their distinct cultures and celebrations, and, best of all, enjoy authentic traditional Chamorro cuisine. For those curious about Guam’s latte stones, don’t miss the Free Latte Stone Monument near Agana Bay, where you can stand atop the world’s largest latte stone monument and take in the breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean.

For diving enthusiasts, the seafloor of Apra Harbor in Guam holds WWII-era shipwrecks just waiting to reveal their secrets. Additionally, the nearby Challenger Deep, close to Guam, is another excellent choice for deep-sea diving. It was here that award-winning director James Cameron recently made his dive to the bottom of the Mariana Trench, the deepest point on Earth. This trench also makes Mount Lamlam — located above it — the tallest mountain in the world by elevation gain from base to peak.

Guam is also known for its uniquely fascinating wildlife. For instance, in the Chamorro villages and at Fort Nuestra Señora de la Soledad (Fort Soledad), visitors can get up close with Carabaos — 1,000-kilogram native water buffaloes unique to Guam. These gentle creatures have long been used by locals for farming and are considered a symbol of the island. Another notable creature on Guam is the coconut crab, the world’s largest terrestrial arthropod. Islanders are very familiar with coconut crabs, and some even keep them as pets.
