When it comes to the 1984 Hong Kong action movie "Wheels on Meals" or the mobile food trucks known as “fat carts” that are hugely popular on the streets of Europe, America, and Japan, most people will no doubt be familiar. On October 13–14, the Lotus Pond Scenic Area in Kaohsiung will host a creative food truck finals event, where 20 vehicles that stood out from the preliminary selection—each with designs resembling movie props—will compete in a public vote and serve delicious light meals. There will also be performances by popular bands. From now until 3:00 PM on October 14, an online vote for the “Best Design” food truck will be held on the official event website, and participants have a chance to win NT$1,000 convenience store gift vouchers.

The top 20 finalists of the “Kaohsiung Scenic Area Creative Food Truck Carnival” preliminary selection have been announced. Twenty creative food trucks, including the “Banana Guest” from Qishan, will compete in the finals at the Big Wharf along the Lotus Pond Scenic Area loop road, vying for the “Most Popular” and “Best Local Characteristic” awards. In addition to showcasing creatively designed food trucks and serving tasty light meals, the event will feature performances by popular bands such as MATZKA and Desert Spring Water, blending reggae with jazz, folk, heavy metal, rap, and hip-hop to deliver a unique musical style. The event will also include performances by the Tree High Vocational School Drum and Flag Team, family-friendly sing-alongs led by MOMO TV’s Apple Sister and Peanut Brother, and a “Little Sheep” experience vehicle for parent-child fun.
An online voting campaign on the event’s official website and Facebook fan page has begun. The selected top 20 food trucks, each paired with their entrepreneurial stories, best-selling items, and photos, will compete in the finals on the official website. Netizens can vote for the “Best Design” food truck based on appearance, and five NT$1,000 convenience store gift vouchers will be awarded to participating voters. Event website: www.2012ksftf.com.tw.
