The “2012 Taiwan Cycling Festival” began on November 10 with the “Taiwan King of the Mountain Cycling Challenge,” which tests riders with steep climbs. The event welcomes elite cyclists from around the world who have won the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, and Vuelta a España to take on Taiwan’s internationally renowned “Taroko Gorge.” The race features a continuous 100-kilometer climb with the highest elevation gain in the world, rising from 0 to 3,275 meters—an average of 36 meters per kilometer—offering an ultra-challenging experience.

From November 10 to 18, the “Formosa 900” ride brings together 10 groups—including people with disabilities, women from the Hsinchu Science Park, and seniors over 55—to complete a 900-kilometer island-wide relay ride over nine days. The cost for nine days and eight nights of food and lodging is NT$30,000 per person. There’s also the family-friendly “Sun Moon Lake Come Bike Day” on November 11, where participants can enjoy a light ride along one of the world’s most beautiful cycling paths to take in the scenery of Sun Moon Lake. Registration is divided into a leisure ride (12 km) for NT$400 and a challenge group (30 km) for NT$600. Additionally, there are free events such as the Hualien 101K Cycling Challenge and the Northeast Coast–Yilan Leisure Cycling Tour.
