The “2012 Taiwan Group Meal Competition” saw intense competition among the shortlisted restaurants and guidance from various counties and cities. A panel of 30 judges, comprising food critics, restaurant chefs, tour guides, travel industry professionals, academics, and government representatives, conducted undercover visits across Taiwan to sample the meals. They evaluated the restaurants based on five criteria: “Local Culture & Identity,” “Taste & Creativity,” “Environmentally Friendly Practices,” “Speed & Quality,” and “Health & Wellness.” During their on-site evaluations, the judges discovered many impressive Taiwanese specialty dishes—ranging from unique local ingredients and seasonal produce to vegetarian and healthy options. Each establishment went all out to showcase the refined essence of Taiwanese culinary culture.

The selected restaurants in Taipei City are Haipower Restaurant, Qizhen Club, and Lianchi Pavilion Vegetarian Restaurant. In Taoyuan County, the winners are Daxi Shanshui Courtyard Restaurant, Hengwei Canteen, and Dalu’an Indigenous Cultural Theme Restaurant. Taichung City’s selections include Jindu Shishang Club, Nverhong Wedding Banquet Hall, and New World North District. The Tourism Bureau will provide the list of selected specialty restaurants to travel agencies as reference for packaging tours for international and mainland Chinese visitors, as well as domestic tour groups. These restaurants are also recommended for corporate year-end parties, family gatherings, and banquets, helping to promote Taiwan’s group meal cuisine.
