Ring in the New Year at Sun Moon Lake with lakeside fireworks countdown

This year’s New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day holiday spans four days. To attract visitors, Nantou’s Sun Moon Lake New Year series of events kicks off at 14:00 on December 30 at the Shiangshan Visitor Center, with a performance by the Puli Youth Orchestra; at 15:00 on December 31 by Ita Thao Lakeside, there will be the “Hundred Pipes Cross Music 102” and the “Bright Lake Melody & Smooth Transition to the New Year” orchestral concerts. At 20:00, the New Year’s Eve gala begins, featuring authentic and vibrant artistic dance performances, hot performances by Super Idol stars, DJ dance shows, and a lakeside countdown fireworks display to welcome the new year. In addition, the Sun Moon Lake Good Ride ticket has been completely revamped, now offering a total of seven tour routes. In addition to lake buses and boat rides, it also includes bike experiences, shopping discounts, and more, allowing visitors to continue exploring Sun Moon Lake after the celebrations.

In the new year, the Sun Moon Lake Good Ride ticket has been completely revamped. The Sun Moon Lake “7-up Good Ride Ticket” includes seven tour routes covering key attractions around Sun Moon Lake and nearby areas. These include connecting transportation from Sun Moon Lake to Taichung, Alishan, and Xitou, as well as value-added activities such as bike riding, pottery making, and DIY woodworking. With one ticket, you can enjoy the diverse scenery of greater Sun Moon Lake along with discount offers. For example, the 330 NT ticket package includes the cable car, boat ride, lake bus, Shuishe–Shiangshan bus, and shopping coupons. The original price was 656 NT, almost a 50% discount.

 

During the four-day holiday to explore Sun Moon Lake, visitors can take the “Taiwan Good Ride—Sun Moon Lake Line,” first heading to Puli to visit the “2012 Nantou Flower Carnival” with its 15-hectare sea of flowers. Explore interesting flower mazes, Happy Flower Fields, Golden Straw Houses, colorful flower landscapes, and themed flower gardens like the purple lavender world. In the afternoon, head to the Sun Moon Lake area, attend the New Year’s Eve party in the evening, take a boat ride on New Year’s Day, rent a bike to cycle the scenic trails, and visit temples to pray for peace for the year—combining flower viewing, New Year celebrations, blessings, and wellness all in one.

 

Additionally, the Sun Moon Lake Management Office has launched the “Google Street View” of the scenic area and the “i3-travel” app for real-time services, allowing visitors to access street views, traffic conditions, and travel information from home or on the go. To facilitate transportation for visitors on New Year’s Eve, the Sun Moon Lake Administration has planned two free shuttle bus routes: “Shuishe–Ita Thao” and “Zhongming–Ita Thao,” available from 16:00 on that day until 1:00 the next morning.
