Last updated 2026-11-08 — This year’s New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day holiday spans four days, with many people planning to attend countdown events in other cities and take the high-speed rail back to work. Anticipating high demand and sold-out tickets during the peak return period, Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp. expects even free-seating cars to be crowded. Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp. stated that between December 28 and January 2, the New Year’s holiday transport period, nearly 300,000 tickets have already been sold, with most purchases concentrated during peak hours. Currently, southbound services from 17:00 to 21:00 on December 28 and from 07:00 to 11:00 on December 29, as well as northbound services from 11:00 to 22:00 on January 1, have reserved seating occupancy rates exceeding 85%, with seats in various sections selling out progressively. The public may consider traveling during off-peak hours.
