After Typhoon Morakot, Pingtung County has been actively promoting the “aquaculture and solar farming” initiative in the coastal areas of Linbian. Fields that were once devastated are now dotted with solar panels facing the sun, and the county government is working with local communities to build a wetland ecological park beneath the solar panels. The first step is to call on 50 families to plant seedlings of hope and release fry of hope in the park on Lantern Festival, February 24. Families will not only create beautiful memories but also witness the rebirth of this land together. At the event, 11 types of floating walkways created by children and the community will also be on display.

This event will take place from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on February 24, Lantern Festival, at the new landscape area of Linbian—Xianshuibu. Xianshuibu is an artificial wetland currently under development, located behind Linbian Railway Station in the solar photovoltaic industrial zone. To allow more people to understand and participate in the follow-up plans for the photovoltaic transformation of coastal subsidence areas, the organizers have designed the “Planting Hope Trees” and “Releasing Happy Fish” activities and prepared adoption signs for participating families. Visitors can take photos with the saplings they planted, and there will be explanations on water purification and aquatic food chains. Advance registration is required for both activities.

Besides tree planting and fish releasing, there will also be lantern riddle guessing and oyster stringing activities on the day. (Photo provided by the Linbian Nature and Cultural History Conservation Association, Pingtung County)

To enhance the land efficiency beneath the solar panels, the Linbian Nature and Cultural History Conservation Association has invited fishermen to set up oyster racks, allowing visitors to experience the charm of fishing village life by stringing oysters themselves. In addition to educational science exhibits and fishing village culture, the event will also feature fun lantern riddles, delicious Lantern Festival treats, and a showcase of premium agricultural and fishery products. For registration, call 08-875-3794. For more details, visit the association’s blog: ptnabem.blogspot.tw/2013/02/blog-post.html.
