From now until April 21, 2013, the Sanyi Wood Sculpture Museum is holding the “Sanyi Wood Carving Association Members’ Joint Exhibition” on the first basement level of its Main Building. The exhibition showcases 66 pieces that take advantage of the natural patterns and textures of hinoki cypress burls. Through the members’ exquisite carving techniques, the works primarily feature composite materials, dragons, landscapes, animals, figures, and traditional deity series, all while maintaining a traditional realistic style. The exhibition aims to inspire the public’s appreciation for traditional wood carving.

The Sanyi Wood Carving Association Members’ Joint Exhibition serves to motivate the creative drive of its members and also showcases the artistic achievements of the association over the past year. Since 2006, the association has established connections and engaged with wood carving arts and crafts associations in Japan, the United Kingdom, and mainland China. It has also conducted international and cross-strait academic seminars on wood carving, and has exhibited in mainland China to promote Sanyi wood carving around the world. Its steps toward internationalization have become increasingly solid and stable. Visitors can glimpse through this exhibition the new face that Sanyi wood carving creators are presenting as the craft evolves from tradition to innovation.
