Cute aircraft livery and cabin designs have emerged as a fresh trend in travel in recent years, drawing many tourists to seek them out and plan itineraries just to experience these distinctive planes. Starting today, China Airlines unveils its Taiwan cultural creativity series of special-livery aircraft, with the first installment — the "Hug Plane" — created in collaboration with renowned Taiwanese cultural artist Jimmy Liao. His beloved illustrated works have been brought to life on the fuselage of a B747-400 aircraft, embodying the concept that “a journey begins with a big hug.” Endangered species leap onto the aircraft’s body, embracing the Earth alongside innocent children, conveying care for the planet. This also allows Taiwan’s cultural creativity to shine on the international stage through China Airlines’ extensive flight network, taking the "Hug Plane" to the world.

The cabin of the Hug Plane is specially decorated with huggable-style pillows, headrest covers, and Jimmy Liao’s artwork, creating a lively atmosphere. A fun Hug Plane animation plays on board, and flight attendants wear aprons featuring images of white dolphins and polar bears embracing. First-flight passengers happily receive commemorative gifts such as a special-edition Hug Plane picture book, playing cards, and T-shirts. Business-class passengers are also given travel bags designed by emerging Taiwanese designers Lin Junxiong and Jiang Meng?, promoted by Taipei as the City of Design. Taiwanese creative works are visible throughout the cabin.

The "Hug Plane" centers around the adorable “Earth Baby,” with eight illustrations wrapping around both sides of the fuselage. It takes passengers on a journey starting from the endangered Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins off Taiwan’s eastern coast, swiftly flying past stars and planets like an owl, exploring the world, and joining efforts to care for animals facing threats from climate change — such as polar bears, penguins, and rare rhinos. The journey ends back in Taiwan at the unique green sea turtles of Penghu, spreading a message of commitment to environmental protection and positive energy for loving the Earth.

China Airlines specially selected its largest passenger aircraft, the Boeing B747-400, for the livery. It can accommodate 70 business-class and 319 economy-class passengers. The aircraft will also feature related merchandise for sale, including aprons and T-shirts themed around the Hug Plane. In the future, the Hug Plane will operate on routes to Europe, the United States, Japan, Southeast Asia, and mainland China, allowing passengers to enjoy a delightful encounter with this artistic aircraft and experience the unexpected cultural surprise during their flight.
