Spring blossoms are in full swing. Following the pink cherry blossoms and yellow tabebuias, the purple Tetrastigma hemsleyanum flowers have also made their romantic debut. Along the wall of the “Liuliyi Tea Garden” in Zhongliao, Nantou, the Tetrastigma hemsleyanum flower wall has burst into spectacular bloom, creating a stunning and magnificent sight that captivates passersby, compelling them to stop and admire.

This tea garden is located right in front of the entrance to the Changyuan Tunnel. As you pass by, you’ll see a whole row of vibrant and dense Tetrastigma hemsleyanum flower walls, with the violet sea of flowers spilling over the wall—both romantic and magnificent. The Tetrastigma hemsleyanum blooms annually from February to April, and currently, about 80% of the flowers are in full bloom, with the blooming period expected to last until April.

Unlike wisteria, which hangs in cascading clusters, the Tetrastigma hemsleyanum does not grow in such strands. However, when in full bloom, it also presents a “purple explosion” spectacle. Its rich and vivid purple hue exudes a uniquely enchanting charm. Additionally, the Tetrastigma hemsleyanum is homophonically referred to as “wish-granting vine,” carrying connotations of blessings.

Typically, the Tetrastigma hemsleyanum is seen as small plants or climbing on frames, but it’s quite rare to see it blooming so abundantly along a wall. The Liuliyi Tea Garden mainly deals in the buying and selling of camellia seedlings, and those interested in camellias can also consult the owner.

Visitors who come to admire the flowers at the tea garden can also explore nearby attractions along Provincial Highway 139, such as Micro Heat Hill, Munich Chocolate Factory, or Rosie Family – Nantou Tax Office, and take a stroll around Nantou to get close to nature.
