The Yellow Rubber Duck that debuted at the Taoyuan County Land Art Festival last weekend has recently had its appearance affected by overhead power lines, resulting in “three lines” or a “musical staff” showing up on its face in photos, prompting complaints from many netizens. Although Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman expressed that he is happy to see the duck blend into the local environment and does not believe the exhibition setting needs to be altered because of the duck, the organizers, aiming to help visitors take better photos, worked with the power company to complete the lowering of some cables in front of the duck’s face after 5:00 PM today.

The first Taoyuan County Land Art Festival, guided by the principles of respecting local characteristics and integrating artworks into the landscape, has created an open-air "museum" centered around the pond culture. Now in its fourth day, it has attracted over 750,000 visitors cumulatively over three days, with considerable foot traffic even on weekdays—over 200,000 people visited to admire the artworks just yesterday (28th).

The row of power lines that have drawn recent criticism in front of the Yellow Rubber Duck includes three high-voltage lines above the duck’s head, which are part of the basic power distribution system for Xinyi Township, mainly supplying electricity for local residents' daily use. These do not affect photo opportunities with the duck or the entrance installation, so they have been retained. However, the power lines in front of the duck’s face—comprising grounding and streetlight lines, coaxial cables, and telecom transmission wires—have been lowered in height through the proactive cooperation of the telecom and power companies. This engineering work does not impact the original functions of the lines. After the event, the original cables will be restored. It has been confirmed that before the event begins tomorrow (30th), the public will be able to see the Yellow Rubber Duck with only the three high-voltage lines remaining in front, allowing visitors to take happy and beautiful photos with the duck.
