After the mountain cherry blossoms bloom from January to February, it’s now the perfect time for Japan’s Yoshino cherry blossoms to be in full bloom. Yangmingshan in Taipei, a popular flower-viewing spot, holds an annual cherry blossom festival. This year’s 2020 Yangmingshan Flower Festival “Bloom for You” lets you enjoy both the blossoms and performances.

The 2020 Yangmingshan Flower Festival “Bloom for You” will host a dance-packed Floral Dance Competition on March 14. This event is specially co-organized with the National Dance Exhibition, adding even more variety to Yangmingshan. The Yoshino cherry blossoms, the grand finale of this year’s Yangmingshan Flower Festival, have also recently begun to gradually bloom around the Yangmingshan Park Service Center and along the Lakeshore Road area.

The Yoshino cherry is a widely cultivated cherry variety in Japan, with flowers about 3–5 cm in size and nearly white single-layer petals. In Taiwan, most Yoshino cherries are grafted onto mountain cherry rootstocks, which can influence their flowering characteristics. Currently, the Yoshino cherries planted in Yangmingshan Park are slightly pinker compared to those in Japan, yet still retain their iconic “cherry blossom snowfall” effect.
