Like footprints left by aliens, the mysterious phenomenon of "crop circles" has emerged in Taiwan!In the vast wheat fields of Sanli Village, Waipu District, Taichung, various patterns can be seen. Viewing the crop circles from above with a drone offers an even clearer and more healing sight.

This crop circle is part of Waipu’s alien-themed wheat field landscape art, meticulously created step by step by a group of wheat farmers and volunteers to stomp out the desired patterns. It’s part of a series of crop circle events aimed at promoting locally grown wheat and establishing Waipu’s wheat as a regional brand.

Every March when the wheat matures, you can see these vast and healing crop circles in Waipu, with a different design each year. Following the trails through the wheat fields, walking amidst the scent of wheat, listening to the wind rustling the stalks, and basking in the sunlight brings a sense of purity—whether for aerial photography or regular shots, the experience is naturally soothing.

Within the 1.6-hectare expanse of wheat fields, relying on measurement expertise and spatial concepts, five patterns composed of interconnected circles and arcs were created. Additionally, since the crop circles are set up on land provided by local farmers in Waipu, while enjoying the wheat fields, do not step on the crops, litter, or take any of the farmers’ hard-earned wheat stalks.

Although this year’s Daya Wheat Festival was canceled due to the pandemic and harvesting has already begun, those wanting to capture golden wheat waves can visit the Waipu wheat fields in Taichung. The crop circle landscape art exhibition is scheduled to run until March 28.

Waipu Crop Circles
Location: Intersection of Sanhuan Road (outer ring road) and Sanli Road, Waipu District, Taichung City. Turn toward Waipu Fuxing Temple, walk straight for 100 meters, then turn left at the Fuxing Temple archway. After 200 meters past the archway, turn right at the water pumping station and walk straight for 70 meters to reach the site.
