Man Ray (1890-1976) can be regarded as a giant of avant-garde art in the 20th century. Born in the United States, he spent the most important creative period of his life in Paris. Man Ray actively participated in Dada and Surrealist movements, and his artistic media were diverse and rich, ranging from sculpture, found objects, conceptual art, photography, painting to film, always with painting as the core of his work. Man Ray was renowned worldwide for his unique photographic darkroom techniques and imagery full of dramatic tension and poetic expression. He was also active in the art scene through his fashion and portrait photography. This exhibition showcases 156 works, covering oil paintings, sculptures, films, and illustrations, including 5 oil paintings that have never been exhibited together in a single show before, as well as 6 sets of original "chessboards" designed by Man Ray. The exhibition comprehensively includes representative works from all stages of his creation, and is the first of its kind in scale in Taiwan and Asia.

Man Ray also paid considerable attention to contemporary art, especially bringing a strong boost to photography. He connected the experimental, entertaining, and innovative aspects of art, and these experiments had a profound influence on the artistic value and conceptual depth of photography. He further linked commerciality, artistry, popularity, lifestyle, and freedom in his photographic creations, and was active in the art scene through his fashion and portrait photography. By refining his innovative and unique photographic darkroom techniques, he established a reputation for imagery full of dramatic tension and poetic expression.
