Studying and working abroad in the U.S. or Canada has always been the top choice for Taiwanese exchange students. Canada, with its vast land and beautiful environment, is one of the more affordable countries for learning English in terms of tuition fees and living costs. Moreover, it doesn’t have a strong accent issue in English pronunciation. In addition, Canada combines both British and French lifestyles and languages. If you’re interested in learning a second foreign language, Canada offers an extra option.

Similar to the U.S., studying in Canada also mainly involves ESL “English as a Second Language” programs. Students are grouped according to their language proficiency levels and then placed into appropriate courses. From basic English learning to advanced practice and even professional application, every course offers the most suitable learning experience.

However, Canada does not have an organization similar to a language school alliance. Therefore, if you’re looking for a language school with quality assurance, it is recommended to consult Taiwan’s Canadian Education Centers or reputable agencies.

Although Canadian language centers and schools are not as diverse as those in the U.S., Canada offers advantages such as more affordable tuition and a variety of language options. For example, Vancouver attracts most Taiwanese students who come not only to experience Canadian culture but also to choose from multiple language programs. Each Canadian province has a different education system, mostly 12 years long, except for Quebec. As for universities, there are two types: a general 3-year bachelor's degree and a 4-year honors bachelor's degree. The honors degree requires additional credits and sometimes a thesis, and graduates can directly enter graduate school.

Working abroad as part of a study trip has become one of the hottest choices today. Not only can you better integrate into local life, but you can also learn more practical conversational skills. In the past, if you wanted to work legally in Canada, you needed to first obtain a student visa and then apply for an internship work permit. The ratio of work to study time had to be 1:1, meaning work hours could not exceed study hours. However, in 2010, Taiwan and Canada signed the “Taiwan-Canada Youth Exchange Understanding Memorandum,” introducing the IEC (International Experience Canada) program. This allows people aged 18 to 35 to go to Canada to live, intern, travel, and study. For more related information and itineraries, search for “Study Abroad e-Zone” in the App Store.
