The warm spring months of March and April are perfect for flower viewing. Affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, many travelers have canceled overseas trips and opted to explore outdoor attractions within the country. Flower fields across Tainan are blooming one after another as temperatures rise—be sure to seize these weeks to enjoy this season’s limited, stunning floral displays!

Nansi Meiling Flower Season – Purple Peony, Azalea, and Mountain Cherry; flowering period lasts until mid-March

Visiting the ancient capital of Tainan in early spring, the Meiling Flower Season, which began in January, is a renowned flower-viewing destination in southern Taiwan. After the Lunar New Year, a sea of purple peonies, azaleas, mountain cherries, and more flowers bloom along the Meiling hiking trails. Paired with the lush green valley scenery, the view is breathtaking, attracting endless crowds of hikers and flower enthusiasts.

The most dreamy pink flower field – Hollyhocks, Tropical Cherries, and Cordia; flowering period lasts until the end of March

Pink has always been the color most symbolic of romance and sweetness, and hollyhocks, cherry blossoms, and Cordia—also known as Thai cherry blossoms—are recent flower-viewing highlights. The Tainan Xuejia District-exclusive “2020 Yearning for Xuejia Hollyhock Flower Culture Festival” covers an area of 5 hectares, where pink hollyhocks taller than people sway in the spring breeze among the greenery. Paired with 10 hectares of wheat fields, pink skull salvias, and rapeseed flowers complementing each other, the romantic floral landscape instantly heals the mind and body.

In addition, Cordia flowers have also begun to bloom near Xigang Jinsha Elementary School and Liuying Jian Shan Pi Jiangnan Resort. The most spectacular displays can be seen at Nanhua Jade Mountain Baoguang Sanctuary and Guidan Hot Spring Leisure Experience Farm, which are about to enter their Cordia flowering season. The bloom can last until April. Meanwhile, in Tainan’s Xinhua District, at the Damuge Cultural Park, Cordia and tropical cherry flowers are also gradually blooming. The pink petals flutter down gently in the breeze, set against the backdrop of Japanese-style houses—no need to go abroad to experience the essence of Japan’s cherry blossom season.

The most eye-catching fiery red kapok – Kapok flowers; flowering period lasts until mid-March

Known as one of the most beautiful flower-lined streets in the world, the Baihe Linchupi Kapok Avenue features fiery red kapok flowers swaying on the branches, as if leading visitors through an advancing orange-red tunnel. The vibrant red floral scenery contrasts beautifully with the surrounding lush greenery, attracting large numbers of tourists and photography enthusiasts every year.
