Top 21 Cherry Blossom Trails in a City Rivaling Japan’s 1-Line-21-Cherry-Blossom-Walkways Revealed

Winter often brings to mind a dull and withered atmosphere, but seasoned hikers know that in the late winter and early spring sunshine, the forests are just about to put on a dazzling transformation show. Walking amidst the trails and woods is the perfect time to enjoy a riot of colors. This year, Taipei’s cherry blossom season has arrived earlier than usual. The Taipei City Department of Urban Development has recommended 21 nearby cherry blossom trails in the city, inviting everyone to take advantage of this season when the mountain and forest scenery is at its most diverse and vibrant, for a healthy, happy, and romantic trail adventure.

Taipei’s trail and mountain environments are diverse and rich, with many deciduous plants in the midst of putting on their new coats. Examples include the “yellow” century-old soapberry trees on the Hengling Trail in Beitou District, the “red” mountain peach and Chinese sumac on the Da’antouwei Mountain Trail in Shilin District, as well as the clusters of “white” silvergrass along the Little Sky Trail and Denggao Trail in Wenshan District — all adding warm hues to what would otherwise be a bleak winter. It is recommended that you take some leisure time to visit the suburban mountains of Taipei and enjoy their colorful and beautiful woodlands.

The Department of Urban Development stated that the most popular color in the mountains and forests right now is the “pink” of cherry blossom forests blanketing the hills. Take Beitou District, which has the highest density of cherry blossom trees in Taipei City. As visitors descend from the “Shangqing Temple Trail,” they will pass by several popular cherry blossom viewing spots, including the Shangqing Temple itself. Or head to the “Fengwei Trail,” which cuts through a sea of cherry blossoms, where you can fully immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of sheer numbers. In addition, the cherry blossoms stretch for several kilometers along the hiking route, and the “Zhongzhengshan Hiking Trail” runs right through them. Last year, the Department added a cherry blossom-themed entrance feature at the trailhead, which complements the surrounding cherry blossoms and has become very popular with visitors.
