The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced on March 6 the 45th confirmed case of COVID-19 (Wuhan pneumonia) in Taiwan, who was a previously discharged patient (a woman in her 50s) from the same ward but a different room as Case 34 before their diagnosis.

The CECC pointed out that Case 45 had no recent domestic or international travel history. On February 14, they were hospitalized for another illness and shared the same ward but not the same room as Case 34, being discharged on February 20. On March 1, when health authorities conducted contact tracing and testing for individuals related to Case 34, an abnormal result was found in the specimen, leading to a second test on March 5 and a confirmed diagnosis on March 6. The individual is currently isolated in a negative pressure ward.
As for the highly watched Australian confirmed case, the CECC has tracked his whereabouts in Taiwan from February 23 to March 2. Aside from visiting a clinic on February 27, he mostly moved between his hotel and the National Concert Hall. The risk of community transmission is assessed to be low. A total of 147 contacts have been identified, including accompanying personnel, staff, friends, clinic workers, journalists, orchestra members, and taxi drivers during his stay in Taiwan. Of these, 103 are considered close contacts and required to undergo 14-day home quarantine, while the other contacts must conduct 14 days of self-health management.
Investigation and contact tracing related to Case 45 are ongoing. As of now, a total of 417 contacts have been identified in this cluster, with 346 tested. Among them, seven tested positive (Cases 35 to 38, and Cases 41, 42, and 45), 330 tested negative, and the rest are still pending results.
