Is Taipei City ranked No. 1 on the list of must-visit cities in the world? It seems many will be disappointed. On March 2, the Taipei City Tourism Bureau released a news release stating that an American social news website listed 53 lifetime must-visit cities around the world, among which Taipei City was ranked first. After actually visiting the website, it was confirmed that this news was a misinformation incident. Currently, the ranking of the 53 cities is only the numbering for a voting activity, and Taipei City has not yet entered the top 15.

An American social news website held a voting campaign titled “53 Beautiful Cities Everyone Should Visit At Least Once,” displaying images of 53 cities, with Taipei City featuring a beautiful night view of Taipei 101 placed at the top of the site. Other cities on the list include Vancouver in Canada, Istanbul in Turkey, Hong Kong, New York in the United States, and Bangkok in Thailand.

The Taipei City press release was titled “Taipei City Awarded ‘Most Beautiful Night View in the World’ by U.S. Online Vote for Must-Visit Cities,” with the content stating, “Foreign friends have great taste. Because Taipei City is inclusive and diverse, blending tradition with modernity, the beauty of Taipei as a city has both the grace of a refined lady and the adorable charm of a delicate maiden. Friends who haven’t been to Taipei must come and visit in their lifetime…” In addition, it also mentioned that Taipei often attracts international media attention in terms of food and transportation, such as international media CNN having featured Taiwanese street food in a dedicated article on its website, highlighting stinky tofu and pepper buns from Raohe Street Tourist Night Market, and the internationally renowned travel magazine Global Traveler also praising the convenience of YouBike.
