The COVID-19 (Coronavirus, also referred to as Wuhan Pneumonia) outbreak continues to evolve. Not only has Indonesia confirmed cases, but countries that had previously reported zero infections — Argentina and Chile — also saw their first cases on March 4. New Zealand has now also reported two confirmed cases, with the husband of the second patient showing suspected symptoms, raising concerns he may become the third case.

New Zealand’s first case was a 60-year-old who had traveled to Iran and Bali, and was treated in Auckland on February 26 after diagnosis. On March 4, New Zealand reported a second case — a woman in her 30s who had traveled to Italy. She returned via a layover in Singapore on February 26. This remains an imported case with mild symptoms, and the country has opted to handle it through home quarantine.

Argentina – Health authorities confirmed on March 4 that the country’s first case involves a 43-year-old man who had traveled to Italy. Chile also announced its first confirmed case on March 4. Since the end of February, South America has seen several emerging cases, leaving Antarctica as the only continent without any confirmed infections.

As for the rumor that North Korea has zero cases, South Korea’s National Intelligence Service has stated that at least 7,000 people in North Korea are currently under quarantine or medical observation.
