Today (21st), Malaysia Airlines hosted the “Greater China Agency Appreciation Night” at Sunway Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, inviting senior management from 59 travel agencies across Taiwan, Mainland China, and Hong Kong to attend the awards ceremony. The event was jointly presided over by Liu Guohua, General Manager of Greater China, Mr. Hugh Dunleavy, Chief Commercial Officer, Chen Libao, General Manager of Taiwan, and Chung Yoke Har, Deputy Director General of Tourism Malaysia, who together presented awards to top-performing travel agencies.

Liu Guohua stated that 2014 was a challenging year, but since 2015 the market has been steadily recovering, especially in Taiwan, which has shown particularly notable improvement. He also noted that this year, Malaysia Airlines has seen a 50% increase in booking rates compared to last year. Chung Yoke Har added that although Malaysia experienced negative growth in tourist arrivals for the first time last year due to the MH incident — dropping from 2.07 million to 1.88 million visitors — the tourism authority remains committed to promoting Malaysia as a travel destination.

Chung Yoke Har further mentioned that Malaysia has recently opened new islands for tourism, and Kuala Lumpur will unveil a luxury shopping mall later this month. By the end of the year, the Melaka Gateway, set to be the largest marina in Southeast Asia, will also open, attracting cruise ships from around the world and bringing significant tourism benefits.
