Popular Japanese Foods Hit Taiwan: A Must-Try List of Five

Not only has Korea recognized the business potential in Taiwan’s food scene with many restaurants expanding here, but Japan has also been gradually setting up new stores in Taiwan. This year, in addition to the opening of many well-known Japanese ramen shops, other popular items such as creamy bread, skewered fried foods, and chicken wings have also made their way to Taiwan. Below is a list of newly arrived Japanese food brands in Taiwan that food lovers shouldn’t miss.
 
● Hachiten
The popular Japanese creamy bread shop “Hachiten” has arrived in Taiwan. Since its founding in 1933 with Japanese sweets, the brand has built up an 82-year history. Six years ago, the third-generation owner took over and developed creamy bread with thin crusts and generous fillings, turning it into a wildly popular bakery in Japan—selling over 40,000 pieces of creamy bread per day, with an unexpectedly huge fan base.

In addition to a temporary booth at Taipei Main Station B3 from now until January 12, 2016, a permanent counter will open at Banqiao World Trade Center starting November 20. Besides classic flavors like custard, fresh cream, matcha, red bean, chestnut, chocolate, and mango, Taiwan-exclusive flavors including French-style cream, fresh fruits, and ice cream have also been introduced.

● Kaneko Hannosuke
The popular Japanese food brand Kaneko Hannosuke, specializing in tempura, launched its first store in Taiwan at Taipei Main Station’s Breeze on November 10. In addition to offering Tokyo’s flagship store specialties such as “Edo-style Tempura,” “Heavenly Tempura,” and “Tempura,” the Taiwan store brings three fan-favorite menu items. Known for its affordable prices and generous portions of fried shrimp and tempura, Kaneko Hannosuke offers exceptional value for money and is one of the must-visit eateries for many Taiwanese tourists in Tokyo. Now, you can enjoy it without flying to Japan—all you need to do is visit Taipei Main Station.
