Qixingtan is a crescent-shaped bay covered with gravel, with a beach about 100 meters wide.It was once the most thriving fishing area in Hualien. The blue sky, sea, and sandy beach make for a refreshing atmosphere. After years of planning, the area now features a cycling trail that allows you to take in the scenic views along the way and the rich flora and fauna. It’s an intellectually enriching trip that is definitely worth it.

Matan Wetland, the most famous wetland in the valley region, is located at the foot of Mashishan Mountain. It is a natural swamp wetland with continuously bubbling springs. Fed by underground springs and shaped by the varying depths of streams, it nourishes the abundant life in this marshland. In summer, you can also see blooming lotus flowers – making it a great spot for families to go for walks together.

Yuzhan Nursery in Shoufeng is very discreetly tucked away with a small entrance, yet it has a strong Japanese-style vibe. The park operates on a self-service coin-entry system. As soon as you enter the garden, you’re surrounded by greenery. Aside from the healing expanse of bald cypress trees, the fish leisurely swimming in the pond also bring a lively energy. The scenery changes beautifully with each season.

The Danongdanfu Plain Forest Park is located in Guangfu Township, Hualien County, in the Huatung Valley. Flanked by the Central Mountain Range and the Coastal Mountain Range, which cradle this emerald gem like wings, the park has a 13-kilometer-long cycling trail that winds through the woods of the northern and southern loop roads. Riding through the forest while being caressed by the wind, you can admire the red leaves falling from the trees – a truly romantic experience.
