China Airlines takes on budget carriers: Happy GO flights to Tokyo from NT$5,100

To compete with low-cost airlines, China Airlines has announced the launch of the “Happy GO” ticket service, targeting budget-conscious travelers and backpackers. Passengers can decide whether to add checked baggage and still enjoy benefits such as frequent China Airlines flights, complimentary meals, and in-flight entertainment. The first wave of promotions offers round-trip flights between Taoyuan and Tokyo Narita starting at NT$5,100 (excluding tax), with sales beginning at 10:00 AM on May 25 on China Airlines’ corporate website. Flights departing after July 9 are available for booking.

The “Happy GO” tickets are purchased similarly to regular online flight bookings, are available in limited quantities, and are non-refundable. The fare does not include checked baggage fees. If passengers wish to add checked baggage, a 20kg piece for a one-way trip costs USD 30 (approximately NT$980). Baggage allowances can be added directly at the time of ticket purchase or up to 24 hours before the flight's departure via the website; no in-person additions are allowed at the airport.
