The Central Epidemic Command Center announced on the 25th the 31st confirmed case of COVID-19 (Wuhan pneumonia) in Taiwan (the grandson of Case 27 and the son of Case 28). Case 31 had visited Case 27 at the hospital on February 11 and 19, showed no suspicious symptoms, underwent testing as a contact on February 23, and was confirmed positive today before being hospitalized for isolation and observation.

The CECC pointed out that as of now, a total of 580 contacts have been identified in relation to this family cluster, with 144 tested—4 positive (Cases 28 to 31), 122 negative, and the rest still under testing.
According to CECC statistics, 13 new cases of severe pneumonia with novel pathogens were reported in Taiwan on the 24th, bringing the cumulative total to 2,060 reported cases. This includes 31 confirmed cases (with Case 31 being the new addition today), 2,005 ruled out, and the remainder undergoing isolation and testing (12 preliminary negative, others pending). Of the confirmed cases, 1 has died, 5 have been discharged, and the others remain hospitalized in isolation. For the northern family cluster related to Case 24, 639 contacts have been identified, with 239 tested—2 confirmed (Cases 25 and 26), 219 negative, and the rest still under testing. Meanwhile, among the 19 Taiwanese repatriated from the Diamond Princess cruise ship, 1 is currently showing fever and respiratory symptoms and has been arranged for transfer, while the others show no suspicious symptoms and continue to be closely monitored for health under centralized quarantine.
In response to the start of the school term, to facilitate epidemic prevention for schoolchildren and enable parents nationwide to easily purchase masks for their children, the “Name-Based Mask Distribution System” will adjust the distribution method for children’s masks starting from Thursday, February 27, as follows:
Children aged 13 and under (inclusive) are no longer subject to the odd-even ID number rationing system for purchasing masks with their National Health Insurance (NHI) cards and may buy masks every day, but are still limited to one purchase per seven days.
Each person may hold up to three NHI cards for children aged 13 and under (inclusive) at a time to purchase masks.
All other regulations remain unchanged.
The CECC reminds the public that after the adjustment to the children’s mask distribution method, adults may still hold one adult NHI card per purchase to buy masks, subject to the existing odd-even ID number rationing restrictions.
