Taiwan’s first domestically produced Danhai Light Rail train, the “Xing Wuzhe,” was officially unveiled on November 16. New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu also made a special trip to the Taiwan Rolling Stock Company in Hsinchu to attend the train’s unveiling ceremony. In his speech, he stated that the completion of the first Danhai Light Rail train produced by a national Taiwanese team symbolizes Taiwan’s future ability to compete globally in the rail transport industry. It is not only a source of pride for Taiwan but also an important milestone for the light rail industry.

The Taipei Rapid Transit Bureau stated that the newly unveiled Danhai Light Rail train “Xing Wuzhe” has a streamlined design inspired by the sea. The materials were specially selected to suit the climate and geographical environment of the Tamsui area, using stainless steel and weather-resistant steel. Both the interior and exterior of the carriages feature a water-blue color scheme that complements the blue skies and sea views of Tamsui. Each train consists of five carriages and can carry 265 passengers. It is a lightly loaded, manned, 100% low-floor train and is also the first rail vehicle in the country to use LED lighting throughout.
All 15 Danhai Light Rail trains will be completed and delivered progressively by August 2017. The Danhai Light Rail project includes the Green Mountain Line, which runs from Hongshulin Station to Fude Station with a total of 11 stations, as well as the Blue Ocean Line, which includes three stations: Taipei Ocean University Station, Shalun Station, and Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf Station. The entire line spans 9.55 kilometers, has 14 stations, one depot, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
