Every year, fireflies briefly appear in spring. If you want to admire the enchanting and dreamlike sight of glowing elves dancing among the trees, the Danongdafu Plain Forest Park is a great spot for firefly watching.

Danongdafu Plain Forest Park is the earliest place in Taiwan where fireflies can be spotted. The annual Firefly Season is held every March and April, marking the start of the island’s firefly season. This year, as the fireflies are expected to appear earlier, the Firefly Season event has been moved forward to February 27.

Danongdafu is the earliest, largest, and most easily accessible sacred site for firefly watching in the country.
The Danongdafu Plain Forest Park boasts rich ecological resources and is located at a low altitude. With low-density development, the environment here remains in excellent condition, making it an emerging hot spot for firefly watching in recent years.

The 2020 Danongdafu Firefly Watching event will take place on February 27.
This year’s “2020 Danongdafu Firefly Watching” event also collaborates with 10 surrounding community tribes. Not only can visitors enjoy the rare sight of fireflies, but there will also be expert-guided tours led by local community guides, as well as free locally made souvenirs, concerts, and dance performances, offering an experience of the beauty of glowing fireflies not seen in the city.

The number of fireflies during the Firefly Season varies depending on the day's climate, temperature, and the ecological cycle of the fireflies.
