Visiting Tibet has been my dream for many years. Year after year, there were always one reason or another that prevented me from going. This year, having just turned 60, I felt that if I didn’t go now, I might regret it for the rest of my life. I made up my mind — no matter how many cars we had, even if it was just our own, my husband and I decided to set off. (Fortunately, Old Zhang joined us, so in the end we had two cars.)
We originally planned to enter via Sichuan and exit through Qinghai, but unfortunately, due to the Lushan earthquake, traffic controls were in place on the Sichuan-Tibet Highway. We had to change our plan temporarily and go in through Qinghai and out via Sichuan. Since there was no toll on highways during the May Day holiday, we decided to depart on April 30th.
After three days of speeding down the highway, we arrived in Xining on the morning of May 2nd. In the afternoon, we visited the Kumbum Monastery. A successful elder told us that those with a conversion certificate don’t have to pay the entrance fee, and sure enough, that was the case. Here, I’d like to extend a special thank you to Elder Chenggong!!!
