On February 17, two new domestic cases of COVID-19 (Wuhan pneumonia) were reported, both family members of yesterday’s confirmed cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 22.

The two newly confirmed COVID-19 (Wuhan pneumonia) cases are an elderly woman in her 80s (Case 21) and a man in his 30s (Case 22) from the central region, who are also relatives of the previously announced Case 19 (the index case) and Case 20.
During contact tracing conducted by health authorities yesterday, it was found that Case 21 had sought medical attention after developing symptoms on February 6, while Case 22 exhibited symptoms such as fever and cough between January 28 and February 6. Both tested positive today.
As Case 22 did not usually live with the other three individuals, it is believed that the infection occurred during a family gathering over the Lunar New Year holiday, constituting a familial cluster.
The command center has identified a total of 181 close contacts of the four individuals in this cluster, including co-residents, non-co-resident family members, medical personnel, passengers transported by Case 19, and colleagues of Case 22. As of now, 176 have been tested, among which all co-residents of Case 19 have tested positive (Cases 20 and 21), one non-co-resident family member tested positive (Case 22), 113 tested negative, and the rest are pending test results.
