Yesterday (16th), a frontal system passed through and a cold wave moved southward, bringing brief showers to central and northern Taiwan as well as Yilan and Hualien, while other areas also experienced localized rainfall. Temperatures in central and northern Taiwan as well as Yilan and Hualien continued to drop, though other regions still saw highs of 27 to 29 degrees at noon. By evening, temperatures north of Tainan and in Yilan had noticeably dropped to 9 to 13 degrees, while other areas remained between 15 and 18 degrees.

Today (17th), affected by the cold wave, the weather is extremely cold. Early in the morning, temperatures north of Tainan and in Yilan and Hualien will only be 9 to 12 degrees, while other areas will be around 13 to 14 degrees. During the day, northern Taiwan will remain cold with highs of only 12 to 13 degrees, while other areas may reach 15 to 19 degrees. Tonight into early tomorrow morning will see the lowest temperatures of this cold wave, with north of Tainan and in Yilan and Hualien dropping to 7 to 10 degrees. Coastal, open, or plain areas near mountains in central and northern Taiwan may even experience lows of 5 to 6 degrees, while southern Taiwan and Taitung will only reach 12 to 13 degrees. Everyone must take proper measures to keep warm.

The lowest temperatures of this cold wave will occur tonight and into tomorrow morning on the 17th.
In terms of rainfall, moisture is gradually decreasing. In the first half of the day, there will still be localized showers in eastern and southern Taiwan as well as mountainous areas in central and northern Taiwan. In the second half of the day, only eastern and northeastern Taiwan will see some brief, localized rain, while other areas will turn mostly cloudy to sunny.

Although temperatures are low and cold, reduced moisture means the whole of Taiwan will have mostly cloudy to sunny weather.
Northeast winds are notably strong, making areas across Taiwan as well as coastal and open regions of Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu prone to strong gusts of 8 to 10 on the Beaufort scale. Coastal areas and nearby seas will see rough waves, and there is a chance of sudden large waves along the Keelung northern coast. Those engaging in seaside activities or maritime work should pay attention to safety.
